Marie has been an artist since youth and was heavily influenced by her father, Ronald H. Stone, who was a professional artist and provided coaching, skills, technique and encouragement. She exhibits her visual art, clothing art, painted furniture and objet d'art at local galleries and art shows. She has worked under the tutelage of numerous artists studying life drawing, oil painting, watercolor, faux finishing, fabric art and sculpture. Marie has also facilitated "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" classes and workshops and continues to offer private and group art instruction.
Having an ear for music, Marie began taking organ lessons at age 7 and double bass at the age of 10, which she continued after graduation. As an adult, she majored in guitar performance at Guilford College and has been teaching private classic guitar and ensembles in Greensboro since 1997. She has also had the honor of performing in master classes for guitarists Andrew York, William Kanengiser, Elena Papendreau, Ricardo Cobo among others. Marie has recorded with Manifest Spirit Records www.naftracks.com and is a member of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society www.piedmontclassicguitarsociety.org and Music for People www.musicforpeople.org where she enjoys developing improvisation skills in their Musicianship and Leadership program.
As a partner in SV2 Studios www.sv2studios.com with her husband, Stephen van Vuuren, she assists with film and video production, provides art and music direction, records and produces soundtracks and sound design and has served as Producer, Unit Production Manager and Assistant Editor for short films, commercials, PSAs and music videos.
